Tips for your stay in Bolivia

Here you can post some questions and Paola, Fabián and other friends and family will try to give the best advices regarding your stay in Bolivia mainly in La Paz (i.e. cheap places to eat, to go out at night, phone numbers, etc..)

Paola's Address: Cota-Cota calle 28 pasaje "D" #30. Zona Sur

The exchange rate for Danish kroner to bolivanos and vice verca is (aproximately):

1 dkk = 3/2 bs
1 bs = 2/3 dkk

The difference in time from Denmark to Bolivia is minus six hours. I.e. to go from Danish time to Bolivian time you subtract six hours.

The hostel La Estancia is placed right in the center of La Paz. The prices are:
  • Simple: 100 Bs
  • Double: 160 Bs
  • Wedding suite: 165 Bs
  • Triple: 210 Bs
Continental breakfast costs 5 Bs. The rooms all have private bathroom, telephone and cable tv. The address of the hostel is Calle México Nº 1559. Telephone number is (00591-2)-2310336.
If you would like us to book your hotel, please let us know before monday. We need to know your full names, and at what time you will arrive and depart.

We would very much appreciate some tips on a cheap place to live (15-25 USD per night). Oh yeah, and nice restaurants and fun places to go out at night are also sought after ;-)

Whoa! That was a quick question, caught me off guard.

About cheap places, depends on your living standards, you could even find a place for less than 15USD per night...but location might be on the low-end and going about at night might not be advisable. If you're up to youth hostel standards, there's a new hostel near the bus station. Location is not the best, but apparently it's a nice hostel (part of the hostelling international chain of hostels...you should google it). On the other hand, I think you could go for a more hotel-like location, such as (typical tourist arrival spot) Hotel Torino. It's not very new (au contraire...it's kind of old), in the city center right by the main square. Calle Sagárnaga is filled with backpackers and tons of backpacker-style hotels/hostels.

Anyhow, being a local means it's hard to give advise on lodging, because you never use hotels at home! I'll try to find out a bit to give you more options and exact prices.

As for food and bars, there are tons of places...but I guess that's the kind of thing we should discuss in a couple of weeks (or are you looking forward to get a list of pubs/discos/bars ASAP?)

Cheers from La Paz!
